2. What data we collect

Cookies and analytics

This site uses functional cookies to remember your cookie consent preference (stored locally in your browser's localStorage). If you choose to accept analytics cookies, anonymous usage data — including page views, referral sources, and approximate geographic region — may be collected to help us understand how readers navigate the archive. No personally identifiable information is attached to these analytics records.

Contact form

When you submit the contact form on the home page, we collect your phone number, name, and email address solely for the purpose of responding to your message. This data is not added to any marketing list, shared with third parties, or retained beyond the period needed to address your enquiry.

3. How we use data

Data collected through this site is used only to:

  • Respond to contact form submissions
  • Understand aggregate readership patterns (analytics, where consent is given)
  • Remember your cookie consent preference

No data is sold, rented, or shared with advertisers or data brokers.

4. Cookies

You can accept or reject cookies using the banner displayed on the home page. If you reject cookies, only the consent preference itself is stored locally. Rejecting cookies does not prevent you from reading any content on the site.

5. Third-party services

This site loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Google's privacy policy governs data collected through that service. Images are loaded directly from Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org). No other third-party scripts or tracking pixels are loaded.

6. Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, provincial legislation, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact editor@villagefieldnotes.org.

7. Data retention

Contact form submissions are retained for up to 12 months and then deleted. Aggregate analytics data (where collected) is retained indefinitely in anonymised form.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated in a material way, the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the site after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
